Offshore Update: Sailing Off the Garden State

Date: Friday, June 7, 2019
Time: 0800 EDT
Position: 40°06m N x 73°25m W

We are currently about 30 nautical miles east of Manasquan Inlet, New Jersey, and 30 nautical miles south of Jones Beach, Long Island.

Steering 065 degrees magnetic. Motoring along at 6+ knots rolling along with a 4- to 5-foot swell from the southwest. Wind northeasterly 5 to 10 knots. Low visibility from fog.

Still motoring. Yesterday was warm in the Delaware Bay and along the lower New Jersey coast. Also quite buggy with biting no-see-ums and biting flies. This morning it is quite cool and damp with the fog. What bugs we see are remnants from yesterday.

Phil the cook says he is doing valiant battle swatting the little and flighty vermin. Looks like we will be motoring for another day at least. Were intending to near Long Island shore before turning east. Thinking we will pass through the Cape Cod Canal, considering the forecast wind patterns. Passage of the canal could be early to mid-afternoon on Saturday.
