Key Bridge Rebuild

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), in collaboration with local and federal partners, is rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge to restore a vital connection across the Patapsco River. The project will reconnect communities, revitalize commerce, and reimagine the future of transportation in Maryland.

The new Key Bridge will be Maryland’s first highway cable-stayed bridge. It will span more than two miles, feature twin 600-foot towers, and provide 230 feet of clearance for ships below. Designed to serve Marylanders for generations to come, the bridge represents innovation and resilience on a grand scale.

History and Heritage

For decades, Pride of Baltimore II and her predecessor have sailed beneath the original Key Bridge, connecting Baltimore’s maritime past with the present. The Port of Baltimore has long been a hub of commerce, industry, and community life, and the original bridge stood as a symbol of that connection.

Through photos and stories, we celebrate this shared history, showing Pride passing under the bridge across the years, carrying Baltimore’s spirit and craftsmanship through every voyage.

The Pride team looks forward to sailing beneath the rebuilt Key Bridge, the gateway to Baltimore City and the Port of Baltimore.
