Nearly fifty years ago, Baltimore set out to recreate a Baltimore Clipper, a vessel that had disappeared from the Chesapeake for more than a century. What began as a way to reconnect the city with its maritime past became something much bigger. Pride of Baltimore could sail, carrying Baltimore’s story far beyond the city that built her.

Today, Pride of Baltimore II continues that vision as a living monument to Maryland’s maritime heritage. She is not a museum ship, but a working sailing vessel crewed by professional mariners practicing traditional seamanship every day.

Each year, thousands of people step aboard Pride. They stand at the helm, look up into the rigging, meet her crew, and experience maritime history firsthand. They discover the Baltimore Clippers, the shipbuilders who built them, the privateers who sailed them during the War of 1812, and a maritime city whose defense inspired The Star-Spangled Banner.
