As Maryland’s sailing ambassador, Pride of Baltimore II represents the state wherever she sails, promoting Baltimore and Maryland, building relationships, supporting tourism and economic opportunity, and inspiring curiosity about the place she represents.
A Living Monument to Maryland’s Maritime Heritage
Pride of Baltimore II is a working reproduction of a Baltimore Clipper, one of the fast, agile vessels that made Baltimore famous and gained renown as privateers during the War of 1812. She is not a museum ship, but a working sailing vessel crewed by professional mariners practicing traditional seamanship every day.
Nearly fifty years ago, Baltimore created something extraordinary, a monument that could travel. Rather than waiting for people to come here to experience Baltimore’s maritime heritage, Pride carries that story to them through voyages, port visits, public sails, deck tours, festivals, and community events.
A Sailing Ambassador with Global Reach
Since her launch in 1988, Pride of Baltimore II has sailed more than 300,000 nautical miles to over 200 ports in more than 40 countries across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, with voyages reaching from Odesa, Ukraine, to Osaka, Japan.
Wherever she sails, Pride represents Baltimore and Maryland, building connections around the world.
Creating Experiences That Inspire Curiosity
Each year, thousands of people step aboard Pride in Baltimore, throughout the Chesapeake Bay, and in ports beyond Maryland. They stand at the helm, look up into the rigging, meet her crew, and experience maritime history aboard a working sailing vessel.
Those encounters spark curiosity and invite people to ask questions they never expected to ask.
People of all ages and backgrounds—families, students, youth and community groups, locals, and tourists—experience a side of Baltimore they might never have discovered otherwise.

Millions know Baltimore through its challenges. Far fewer know it as one of the world’s great maritime cities: birthplace of the Baltimore Clipper, home to generations of extraordinary shipbuilders, and the city whose defense during the War of 1812 inspired The Star-Spangled Banner.
