Maryland Students to Participate in “Port of Opportunity” Contest
Pride of Baltimore and Port of Baltimore present second annual Maritime Day Contest
BALTIMORE, MD (December 16, 2014) – In anticipation of Baltimore’s 2nd annual National Maritime Day event, Pride of Baltimore, Inc. and the Port of Baltimore have launched their second annual statewide student contest! Maryland K – 12th grade students are challenged to use their creativity to explain (A) How the Port of Baltimore has changed over time, and why it is a major port city today; or (B) The evolution of Cargo Ships: How and why the design has evolved since the days of Baltimore Clippers. Students have freedom to tell the story through whatever creative means they choose –watercolor paintings, photography, poems, essays, videos, interpretive dances, dioramas, sculptures, etc.
This year’s topic was inspired by the Baltimore Port Alliance’s “Port of Opportunity” video. It is recommended that students view the video prior to starting their projects. To obtain a copy of the DVD, please contact: Joseph Wyatt with the Association of Maryland Pilots at: 410-684-2101 or jwyatt@mdpilots.com. Winners will be recognized on Sunday, May 17th, 2015 during the National Maritime Day commemoration and wreath laying ceremony. The top projects will also be featured on the Pride of Baltimore website through December 2015.
Projects (or images of projects) can be submitted through the Pride of Baltimore website:
